With/in/Between
From the
selective permeability of cell membranes and political borders to the elastic
fragility of skin and emotional boundaries,
do the walls built within and in between us provide merely an illusion
of control?
I create sensuous escapes that question boundaries by merging dualities. The protective plastic that forms the environment is thin and riddled with cuts, wrinkles, and stretch marks- embodying the personal and embedding individuality within a universally familiar industrial material. The tension between control and chaos are physically manifested in the way the material responds to the heat I use to transform it- tearing when held, fluidly morphing when released. These fantastical distortions of the material become reflections of my psychological landscape and interpersonal relationships. Viewers are invited into these imaginary worlds and become participants through interactions with, in, and between the installation, space, and each other.
